U.S. Navy Radar Picket Ships -- RADRON 1 in the Pacific operated YAGRs 5, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, and 16. RADRON 2 in the Atlantic operated YAGRs 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, and 12. In the Atlantic, the eight YAGR ships patrolled an area beyond the range of the radars of the Texas Towers, and supplemented the function of the airborne radar planes of the 551ST Airborne Early Warning and Control Wing at Otis AFB, MA. In the Pacific, the eight YAGR ships patrolled an area beyond the range of the on-shore radars, and supplemented the function of the 552ND Airborne Early Warning and Control Wing out of McClellan AFB, CA.
