Fran 04/26/2003 00:00:00 Name: John Petrick To Fran Bailey Wilson, Your e-mail address did not work, What year was your dad at Miles City, I was there in 1967-68 04/24/2003 00:00:00 Name: Fred Jarrett Great site. Served in 729th, 12th radio and 731st AC&W in Sundance, Wyoming as an airman and as a civilian. 04/23/2003 00:00:00 Name: Jerry Sitzlar Great Site! It does bring a tear or two when thinking back to the good and bad times of serving at AC&W Radar Sites around the world. Served from July 61 to Aug 81. Keesler to Snow Mtn, Ky to Wallace AS, PI to Site A19 at Eglin AFB, FL (full fledged AC&W site controlling the Air Proving Grounds air space) to Ft Yukon AFS, AK to Saratoga Springs AFS, NY then as a `Fuzzy-7` radar maintenance troop at Charleston AFS, ME to Ft Fisher AFS, NC to Mill Valley AFS, CA and finally to The Space Surveillance Radar FPS-85 at Eglin AFB, FL and retirement (from the USAF). I now live a few miles from the old Manassas AFS, VA radar site. It is really hard to look at the old places where so much happened and to see them now, destroyed, misused, etc. It`s like finding your old buddies living as a homeless person. everyone just lie back in your bunk, close your eyes, and listen to the radio and blank the 12 second buzz from the music....Cheers, Jerry Sitzlar, MSgt, USAF Ret. 04/23/2003 00:00:00 Name: Clint Johnson Det 1, 729th then 728th AC&W Sqs at Fort Gordon GA.57-58. Sparrevohn, AFS, Alaska Jan.1966-Jan.1967 Opheim, AFS,Montana 1972-1974 04/09/2003 00:00:00 Name: Bob Darbro I enjoyed visiting your site and was amazed at how many sites existed. I was on active duty with the Air Force from 1951/1961 and was assigned to several sites during this period. Some of them are listed, some are not. I will list the sites I was assigned to and the approximate period. 1. Saratoga, NY during 1952/1953. This was my first assignment after basic training. Saratoga was not yet open and the personnel were being assembled at Schenectady, NY. We moved to Saratoga during 1952. 2. Manchester, NH during 1953. This assignment was a gathering for deployment to Armstrong, Ontario, Canada to open that base which was part of the Pinetree Project. We left Manchester in 1953 by train to Montreal were we changed to a Canadian Express to Armstrong. This train stopped at everyplace and even along the line to pickup passengers that waited along the line. I have a lot of interesting sories of this asignment. 3. Sharon, PA was a site just over the line from Ohio, very near Youngstown. This site was open when I arrived there. 4. Owingsville, KY was opened in 1954 by personnel that had been assembled at Clinton County AFB, Wilmington, Ohio. We convoyed to Owingsville by private and military vehicles. The original Headquarters Building was an old garage located on main street behind the home of one of the 2-3 advance personnel. This was a split site. The main site was at the base of the hill leading into Owingsville, while the radar site was 4-5 miles farther down the road toward Sharpsburg. The base was closed in 1957, leaving a skeleton crew for final closure. 5. Joelton, TN was from 1957/1959. This base was open upon my arrival, along with my new wife and young baby. This was my last AC&W assignement. I was then assigned to the 59th Fighter Squadron, Goose Bay, Labrador, but I could look out at the horizon and see an AC&W outfit on a nearby mountaintop. My only escape was discharge, which occurred in 1961. Bob Darbro 04/08/2003 00:00:00 Name: Tom Page Howard D. Jones: Your e-mail no longer works.
