Photos and notes by Tom Page
This visit, hosted by Almaden AFS historian Basim Jaber, took place early Saturday afternoon (6 July 2013). Note that this was a special one-time private tour with prior permission of the private landowners. Further, this one-time private tour was not to the actual Almaden AFS property itself. This will be the last visit of its kind until such time as the Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve makes this former AF Station publically-accessible. Until then, would-be visitors are reminded that all parts of the site as well as the access road itself are off limits to the general public.
Accompanying us were Ed Thelen (http://ed-thelen.org/) and another Nike missile veteran, Greg Brown. From my own family were my wife, Kay; my second-oldest daughter, Jenn; her husband, Zane; and my son, Cory (and, of course, myself). Thanks again, Basim!
