Findings of Fact, Site Location, and Information on Aurora GFA, based on information provided by US Army Corps of Engineers Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) document E05MN0039 (undated but probably circa 1984)

Site Location

Along State Highway 135, about 6-1/2 miles north of Aurora, MN, of the SW ¼ of the SE ¼ of the NE ¼ Section 15, TWNSP 59 N, R-15W

Site History and Findings of Fact

Constructed by the Air Force in 1956, and operated as unmanned radar station. The site consisted of a masonry building and radar tower.

Disposal of the property occurred after a declaration of excess in 1960. The old radar tower was disposed of, and the current use of the site (at the time of the 1984 report) is a microwave relay site, owned by Continental Telephone Company of Minnesota, Inc. Two concrete block structures remain and currently house switching gear, and two fenced microwave towers are located on the site.

The three 4` by 4` concrete footings for the old radar tower still remain.

Site Map and Photos

Several Xerox copies of B & W photos of the buildings and microwave towers are included.
