This article (sent in by Eugene McDonald) appeared in The Post-Standard newspaper (Syracuse, NY) on Sunday, 31 July 2005, on pages E1 and E3 (section E is the Business section).
There are a couple of minor inaccuracies, but none that detract from the overall article. (For example, the SAGE direction center at McGuire AFB was actually the first one to come on-line, in 1958; and the Army`s Northeast Telecommunications Switching Center, NETSC {on the third floor of the old CC blockhouse}, was in operation years before the Air Force ceased SAGE operations there in October 1983.) Otherwise, I think the article was very factual and very well-written.
