It isn`t often that we have both a vintage and a recent photo of the same gap-filler radar site, especially photos taken from about the same angle. Consequently, I thought you`d enjoy seeing the enclosed composite picture. The vintage photo (undated) was probably taken some time in the early 1960`s. The recent photo, of course, was taken in May 2001.
I think it`s interesting to note how much the trees have grown in just ~ 40 years. You`ll see that the road is different now -- it looks as if it were paved back in the 1960`s; it is all dirt now. The present-day microwave tower is not the original radar tower, but it does use the original foundations. The fence appears to be the original. The vintage shot was obviously taken in the morning; the recent shot in the afternoon (in both cases, the view is almost due south). What other similarities and differences do you see?
