When the Z-75 radar site was closed in 1969, the 741st Radar Squadrom was deactivated, and the AN/FPS-66A search radar was taken over by the FAA. When the Southern Air Defense System (SADS) was formed in 1972, the Lackland radar site was tied in, and redesignated as site Z-241. An AN/FPS-6 was re-installed, operated by a detachment of the 630th Radar Squadron (headquartered at the Houston ARTCC).
The Air Force ceased using the Z-241 radar site reportedly in 1975. The FAA continues to operate the AN/FPS-66A today.
