Site History and Findings of Fact
DOD acquired 15.01 acres from the US Department of Agriculture, Forest Service in 1957. The Air Force built an access road and an aircraft control and warning station.
Included on the 0.34-acre site were a communications building, 4,000 gallon diesel storage tank, radar tower, security fencing, sidewalks, sanitary latrine, and storm drainage system. The additional 14.67 acres comprised an access road from the Meadow Creek Road.
The station was operational to 1960 and declared excess on October 14, 1960 by the 84th Fighter Group of the Air Defense Command. The site was then formally relinquished to the USDA, Forest Service.
Current Condition of Site At Time of the 1990 FUDS Report
Only the building foundation, consisting of the concrete slab, and a radar reflector
screen remain on the site today.
The site continues to be under jurisdiction of the Forest Service, with an extremely small portion of the access road crossing land owned by a private party residing in Bonners Ferry. This crossing is located in the immediate vicinity of the access route`s intersection with the county road to Meadow Creek.
