The radar on the far hill was the FAA`s backup search radar (believed to have been an AN/FPS-8 model). As we understand, that radar was first installed when the AN/FPS-24 (that huge search radar in the middle of the main radar site) was being installed, and the FAA`s first radar (ARSR-1) was removed. We believe the AN/FPS-8 remained there as backup for whenever the AN/FPS-24 was off the air. The other radars shown are the Air Force height-finder radars -- AN/FPS-26A in the forground, and AN/FPS-90 partially hidden by the AN/FPS-24 tower. The three vacant towers, as we understand, once housed AN/FPS-6 variant height-finders radars -- one Air Force and two Army (the AN/FPS-26A would have replaced one Air Force AN/FPS-6, probably the one closest to the -26A). In the mid 1960s some time, the two Army AN/FPS-6 variant height-finders radars would have been removed for cost savings; that apparently was done at the other shared radar (Missile Master) sites, too. So, this photo probably was made some time between 1964 and 1968 ... but that`s just an educated guess.
The buildings on the near hill, from left to right, were the Missile Master building, the power plant, the Air Force radar operations building, and probably the tech supply / materiel control building (right next to the AN/FPS-24 tower).
