Site History and Findings of fact
Site property was transferred from the FAA to the Air Force in 1958, used as a radar station, and declared excess to the GSA in 1968. It was transferred to the National Science Foundation in 1969, which conveyed the site in 1974 to the Curators of the University of Missouri, which then conveyed the property to the City of Rolla in Feb 1981.
The City of Rolla uses the site in conjunction with the city airport. The concrete building was leased to the University of Missouri for storage purposes.
The `Initial Site Screening` document mentioned above refers to a February 2000 phone conversation with the City Public Works indicating `the city is in the process of getting bids to remove the old radar tower and building`. The city `was also arranging a meeting with the Army Corps of Engineers to discuss tank removal and tower demolition`.
