The photo above shows that the radar tower for the then `new` AN/FPS-117 Minimally-Attended Radar (MAR) at the new Cold Bay LRRS (A-08) was originally the AN/FPS-6 height-finder radar tower at the original Cold Bay AFS (F-26) (earlier the Cold Bay DEW-Line site, COB-Main).
The `nipple` on top of the radome was the omni antenna for the AN/FPS-6 height-finder radar. Also, the original Cold Bay AFS (F-26) site is seen in the background. This radar tower, no doubt, is the one seen at http://www.radomes.org/museum/photos/ColdBayAFSAK1970714.jpg and other vintage pix.
We had no idea the AN/FPS-6 tower was trucked over to the `new` radar site. But this photo certainly shows that to be the case. The date must have been some time in late 1984 or early 1985.
