I did not know this until now, but there is a model-airplane flying field just east-southeast of the Jedburg JSS radar site. See http://www.jedburgflyersrc.com/photo.htm.
There are lots of cool model airplanes seen in the website`s photo galleries. In addition, the radar towers at the Jedburg JSS site show up in several pix. I am enclosing the two best.
Since the model airplanes are (presumably) radio-controlled, I wonder if the ARSR-4`s radar beam interferes with them ... or vice versa (?).
The new ARSR-4 long-range radar (LRR) tower (background, right, with radome), and the former AN/FPS-116 height-finder radar tower (foreground, left, without radome) built specifically for the JSS program when Jedburg had an ARSR-60 (AN/FPS-66) LRR. Time of day was late afternoon. | |
