Recent Photos of Richland Center, IN GFA

June 2004 photos & notes contributed by Tom Page

I had time -- and daylight -- when I arrived in Indianapolis last Wednesday (30 June 2004), so I made a quick run up to Richland Center to get photos of the old Gap-Filler Annex there. It was about a two-hour drive from IND airport up US Rte 31, and I arrived at the radar site about 15 or 20 minutes before sunset. There was enough daylight (barely) left to get a few decent shots.

This is a view of the old Gap-Filler radar building from the front gate at the southwest corner of the site. Note the AN/FPS-18 radar sail on the building`s roof. (looking east-northeast)

This is another view of the front of the Gap-Filler radar building from near the northwest corner of the site. The radar tower stood to the left (north). An open-air storage garage has been added to the building inside the "L" in the rear. (looking east-southeast)

This view shows the end of the GFA building where the radar tower stood. Two of the three tower footings are seen here in the tall grass. (looking south)

This photo shows the rear of the facility where an open-air storage garage has been added inside the "L" between the radar-equipment section (right) and the diesel-generator wing (left, rear). (looking south-southwest)

This view shows the south side of the GFA facility, with the diesel-generator wing on the right (east) and the radar-equipment section on the left (west). (looking north-northwest)

This final photo shows the southwest corner of the GFA facility, with the diesel-generator wing on the right (east) and the radar-equipment section on the left (west). (looking northeast)
