The Winter Garden Gap-Filler Annex -- no longer extant -- reportedly was located at the northeast corner of S. Apopka Vineland Road and Farley Street, on the north side of the town of Doctor Phillips. The site was southeast of Winter Garden and west of Orlando. The site is now part of the expanded parking lot for St. Luke`s United Methodist Church. This location was suggested by a veteran, and verified by a local resident who had first-hand recollection of the site`s location. The radar site reportedly was once surrounded by orange groves, but those groves are long gone now.
This photo is looking roughly south-southeast towards the intersection of S. Apopka Vineland Road (foreground) and Farley Street (at the traffic light). According to sources, the gap-filler radar facility stood roughly near the center of this view in the present-day church parking lot. This is the highest point long this stretch of highway.
