Gap-Filler Annex. Former LRR site, P-63. GFA was the former G/A radio transmitter bldg. Reportedly was never activated (ADC records give no operational dates, although this gap-filler site is shown on a 1966 map as site ''Z-62F''). Site was atop Blue Knob.

History of Claysburg, PA

Claysburg Air Force Station, after the 772nd AC&W Squdron transferred WOPE to Gibbsboro AFS, NJ, was shut down and returned to the state of Pennsylvania in August of 1962. The Federal government had leased the land from the state for a dollar a year. The state had to pay the Federal government $7,500 for all the improvements when the lease was terminated.

Building #23 (the former ground-air radio transmitter facility) and one acre of land were retained for use as an unmanned gap-filler radar facility. In May of 1965, the Blue Knob Ski Resort owners submitted a letter to the Air Force requesting use of building #23 and the acre of land; this was denied by the Air Force in July of the same year.

The Air Force terminated their lease and returned building #23 and the acre of land to the state on November 15, 1968.
