History of Slidell, LA (FAA site)

In late 1972 a detachment arrived at this FAA ARSR-1 radar site from the 630th Radar Squadron to set up and operate an AN/FPS-6 height-finder radar. With the deactivation of the 630th in 1977, duties were assumed by an element of the Southeast Air Defense Sector, which was headquartered in Pearl River. The AN/FPS-6 was modified to a AN/FPS-116 for the JSS program circa 1977, then removed altogether circa 1988. An ARSR-4 search radar replaced the ARSR-1E in the late 1990?s.
