i served in the air force at point arena and fallon afs from 1955 thru 1958. after leaving the air force went to work for bendix fld eng corp frp, 1959 till 1995. i have did a lot of time on the radar sites through out the world. this is a real interesting information point. keep up the good work. wkr

After going to FPS-20 school, my FIRST assignment was to Tin City, Alaska as a tech rep. What a great time I had (remember I was young then). I have pictures of that site, and my next location in the northeast corner of Iceland if you want some for the pages.

What a great site for all of the Od Scope Dopes and their Maint, partners.I started my Military in the Navy for 5 years then got wise and came into the Air Force. My first assignment out of tech School in 1953 was Hq.32nd Air Div. Syracuse N.Y. Sept, 1955 to Mar 1957 to the 912th ACWRON Ramore Ont. then form 6 weeks Hq 26th Air div Roslyn AFS NY then back to the old 32nd.Earlt in 58 was sent to SAGE School at Waltham Mass the back to Syracuse to help start up theFirst SAGE Combat Center. Sept 59 went to Keesler AFB for Instructor dutyin the basic SAGE course. 1961 I was back in Syracuse for a G.E factory School on the 412L System for Germany. back to Keesler to help set up and teach the 412L course. 1965-66 found me at the 743 ACWRN Champion AFS Alaska. The back tp Tyndall AFB to help organize, set-up and teach in the BUIC School. I retired from Tyndall 1may 1969 and now living in Syracuse New York. I was with Bendix Field Engineering Corp as Logistics Manager for many years. We provided emergency supply support to the AC&W squadrons. These were the good old days. Great cooperation from everyone to get the jobm done.

I was stationed at the 711th AC&W Sqd., Cape Lisburne, Alaska from Nov. 1958 until Nov. 1959.

I spent about 32 months of my 48 months active duty in the Air Force at three different SAGE LRR sites during the waning years of this system. I was a Height Range Indicator Operator (HRIOP) at Bucks Harbor, ME (1/73-9/73), Benton, PA (10/74-5/75) and Ft. Meade, MD (5/75-9/76). During 10/73-9/74, I was with Det. 5, 621 TCS at Nakhon Phanom, Thailand. I enjoyed my tours with ADCOM at the small remote and some not so remote radar sites. Thanks for your effort at putting together this website for chronicling a sometimes little noted by vital part of the Air Forces defensive efforts during the Cold War.

I was in the U S Air Force from Dec 28, 1950 to Dec 17, 1954. Started basic at Lackland AFB and finished basic at Shepherd AFB, Texas. McChord AFB, Keesler, McChord again, I was in an AC7W Sq. at McChord for a short while, 637th AC&W Squadron, Othello, Washington (August 1952 to April, 1953, K-46 8 in Korea, James Connelly AFB, Waco, TX until discharge. Also had some training at Lowry AFB, Spokane, WA.

It was nice to see a site dedicated to all the old AC&W sites. I especially enjoyed seeing some of the old pictures of Campion AFS, AK since all my pictures were lost during a move. I currently work as a radar tech for the FAA at McCarran IAP in Las Vegas.

I worked bringing in SAGE during 1954 - 1965 time frame. The SAGE project office was located at 220 Church St., NYC, NY. They moved to Hanscom AFB, (I believe) in 1960. I was a civil servant working at Griffiss AFB, Rome, New York. As the System Logistics Support Manager, (System 416L), I was responsible for the acquisition of Spare Parts, Technical Manuals, Test Equipment & Training. Working with the AC&W Phasing Group personnel (Hqs USAF,Hqs RCAF, ADC, GEEIA, RADC, Electronics Systems Division & the Programs Office at Griffiss, timing the delivery of the Logistic items was, at times, a very difficult job, especially since this covered several equipments (AN/FST-2, AN/FPS-6, AN/FPS-20, AN/FPS-14/18, AN/FSQ-7, AN/FSQ-8, Radio Transmitters and Receivers etc) which also involved the CADIN Program with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Thanks for publishing these articles. It brings back memories of the long forgotten many dedicated military and civilian hard working group.

I put in 368 days on Texas Tower #3. I was an alternate Comm. NCOIC. I later taught Tropo at Keesler, teaching the guys who operated the Pole Vault system in Newfoundland, Labrador, up to Thule. We used to deal directly with Bendix, who made the FPS-3. After retiring from the USAF I went to work for them on the NASA program and put in another 25. Have been retired 4 years. Your museum would not be complete without a lot of info from and about Bendix Field Engineering Corp. Cramer Boque was Mr Radar there. If you want, I can send you a booklet on the 25th Anniversary of the founding of BFEC. It has many delightful tales of the BFEC Tech Reps and their adventures at many of the AC&W sites. Just looking for equipment information and found your site...I think its great. I graduated Keesler in Feb 1984 as a 303X2. Went to Nellis for the rest of the 80s and went to Germany in 91. Seen a lot of changes (AFSC mergers, etc) and still on active duty at Davis-Monthan in Tucson.

Thanks for the information. I spend over 20 years in various radar and space track units. Flew on EC-121s and E-3s, also EC-130s (ABCCC), ground sites include Clear AK, Korea, Germany, and HQ NORAD in Colorado Springs. I currently live within 40 miles of the radar site on Bedford Mountain however was never station there.

I was a radar tech from 74 - 80. The last two years were for RCA OMS in Alaska. I was at Keesler, then Keflevik Iceland, then Watertown NY. I loved working on the FPS 66 search radar, and to this day I miss it.
