Great site I come back often. My father was in air defence radar during his time in the Air force and I can remember being at Duluth in the mid-70s when the sage bloockhouse was still in operation. As I live in Ohio and am interested in the things I have driven past some of the Installations mentioned including Brookfield which I think is now a highway dept. or township garage, and also you mention a gap filler annex at Stillwell is this the Stillwell located off US Rt. 62 if so this site is now a VOR(faa)site. Thanks again great site James

I am writing a fictional story of two men getting welding jobs on the DEW line, during the early and mid-fifties. I need some general info such as, [1] how did one get a job? [2] how long were the contracts? [3] were there break times and where did one go? [4] what were the working hours per day? [5] what activities were there on off duty hours: letter writing, cards, etc. [6] was time given off to go into Fairbanks or Anchorage for recreation? I am also interested in funny stories and incidents as well as accidents such as plane crashes or hunting accidents. Any clashes with bears? I would be most grateful any info in this regard or somebody who I can contact that has that kind of info. Sincerely Yours, Warner E. Rogers warner32 msn.com

Great Site, this along with the Pine Tree and SAGE site brings back so many great memories of great times. I was so fortunate to serve with some really nice people from one coast to the other. Started with basic training at Parks AFB CA 5 Dec 55, sent to 632 ACW Sq Roanoke Rapids NC(85th Air Division) for OJT as a Scope Dopein Feb 56; transferred to Hamilton AFB, CA and the manual control center of the San Francisco Air Defense Sector, 28th Air Division in Feb 59; on to Puntzi Mountain and great fishing(for those who could)in Nov 60; after a year to 810 AC&W Sq Winston-Salem NC; Dec 62 to Keesler for maintenance training on the AN/FSQ-7 SAGE computer with follow on to MCChord AFB, Seattle ADS and the 25th Air Divison for 5 years; to school on the UNIVAC 1050-II supply computer then to Nam; re-trained again into motion picture editing, sent to Andrews AFB and edited the AF Systems Command Staff Film Report, then to Hollywood CA for editing TV shows and films for AFRTS; finally to Wright-Patterson AFB, retiring 31 Dec 83 with 28 years and 28 days of service. It was a blast..Still working at Wright-Patt hope to retire in about a year and a half. Then will go to the AF museum (not as a relic) but to volunteer to show and tell the people about our Air Force. Did you know the kids in todays Air Force can not identify all the aircraft in todays inventory, let alone those in the past. Remember when we had to know them all. Enough already. Jim
