Casteel Billy, Gene: I've never seen an AN/FPS-35 in person, but I have seen several AN/FPS-24s--they are about the same size, but the -24 appears a little more solid. They were awesome antennae. It was a little scary walking the upper catwalk of the -24 sail out to the end--it stuck out past the building by about 25 feet and was about 110 feet above the ground. I expect that the catwalk of the -35 was just about as scary. Anyone that wants to see a -35 can do so at Montauk, NY. 09/29/2013 00:00:00 Name: David E. Casteel Donald, this site (Radomes.org) has the ability to receive your pictures of the 780th and I'm sure they'd be glad to have them. We had the receivers on one end of the Base, and the transmitters on the other end. I would say we had about 100 men station there at that time, being from NC, this place was nothing like I grew up in, hundreds of miles of nothing. Wheat farmers scattered here and there. The town of Condon put you in mind of an old western town back in the 1800. The winter was bitter, the first time I ever saw fog freeze. I still love the memories of the 636th. It’s been so long that the names of my friends that I had have faded from me. I still remember one, his name is Larry Shepherd. And another friend I called Reedy, I think that was his last name. another one we called Cox. And the chief cook we called mother Anderson. thanks for readinf RJF 09/05/2013 00:00:00 Name: Zelmar Etzel Underwood We would like any info on the 1952 members of the 656th Squadron at Saratoga Radar Base, please. 09/04/2013 00:00:00 Name: Donald Henderson I was on the site and could not find any reference to the 783rd Radron which was located at Guthrie AFS, 12 miles north of Charleston, WV along US Route 21.
