I joined the USAF 20 May 1955 with BMT at Lackland AFB, TX, 3704th BMT Squadon. After basic, I was assigned to Keesler AFB, MS, Ist tothe 3383 Student Squadron, Casual, then on to the 3402nd Student Squadron for Basic Electronics, then to the 3388th for Sets. After that I went to Shellingford AS, England in June 1956 with further assignment to the 633rd AC&W Squadron, Wheelus AB, Libya in 1957. While ther I had a short stint to Incirlik AV, Adana, Turkey, In the summer of 1958 I was transferred to the 727th AC&W Squadron,Myrtle Beach AFB, SC, a TAC unit. In May 1959, I re-enlisted with assignment to the 908th AC&W Squadron, Dobbins AFB, GA and in the fall of 1962 I wa off to the 615th AC&W Squadron in Berkinfeld AB, Germany. It was the transistion period of the 412L system. From Germany, I went to the 758th Radar Squadron, Makah AFS, WA for 2 years, thence to Eglin AFB, FL in the winter of 1966 to help start-up the AN/FPS-85 Space Track Radar System. In mid 1970 I was informed that my services was needed in South VietNam, so of to Det. 9,619th AC&W Squadron I went 'Ban Me Thuot'. After this intermission in my life, I was transferred to Calument AFS, MI, home of the 665th Radar Group for 2 years of joy in the snow. My final assignment was to the 702nd Radar Squadron, Savannah, GA in late summer of 1973 and the on Sept 30, 1975, I entered the retired forces. All-in-all, I enjoyed my career and after hind sight, I would not change anything about it. I would enjoy hearing from anybody who served with me in any of these locations. Sincerely, Ted Clark, MSgt-Ret. 12/30/2010 00:00:00 Name: joseph eck I was stationed at the 648 ac&w sq. otherwise known as Benton AFS from Jan. 1956 till Jan. 1960. I remember the cold and the even colder wind chill. I remember Sam Bass and his 'tangle' with a bear. I remember John Draper's KAOS radio station. He made his transmitter from a cooking pan and spare electronics parts, tapped into the pipes and thus transmitted locally on site. After Indian Mt., I went to Keesler as an instructor, then to St. Louis University for a degree in meteorology through AECP. I finally retired in Dec 1989. bb 12/26/2010 00:00:00 Name: Beamon Bryson Was stationed at Indian Mt. AFS in 1965. There was a future 'hacker' there at the time who found a way to make free phone calls...John Draper, later know as cap'n crunch. I remember making a couple of trips to the 'Cripple Creek' ghost mining camp and made a solo trip to lower camp in September armed with my Winchester 94...got 'chewed out' for it too. When I left Indian Mt., there was a severe cross wind so the pilot took off on the 'short' runway...He let the plane drift to one side of the runway, revved up the engine and took off across the width of the runway and made it. I finally opened my eyes after we were at about 1000 feet. It was wild. 12/24/2010 00:00:00 Name: Jeff States Just watched an army general being interviewed on TV. When asked what we could do to help support our troops in Iraq, he said: go to the following Facebook page and simply clik on "like" to show the troops that people at home care about them. On behalf of the Computer History Museum in Mountain View CA I am trying to acquire a radar scope of the type used in those first demonstrations as a responsive computer display. I thought I'd ask if you knew where in the Air Force or other radar museum complex there might be a extra instance of an old circular tube radar scope? The museum is trying to recreate hardware to display those first interactions. I can be a lot more explicit but this access point doesn't permit it. Please give me a pointer if you can. To evidence the value of representing this early computer capability, it was the first use of interactive computing, the first appearance of the mouse, hypertext, and other functions. Thanks a million. Don Nielson 12/12/2010 00:00:00 Name: David R.
