Pinetree Line Web Site Update

Dear Margaret,
I apologize for putting Ren's work up without permission, and I'll take it down immediately. I have tried unsuccessfully in the past to contact you to make our web server available at no cost to you to host this very important work. For a number of months, I've been watching www.pinetreeline.ca, and have seen that essentially nothing has happened while I've been watching it. We've gotten lots of questions about the Pinetree Line web site since you took it down a couple of years ago, and in order to keep this very important resource available, I decided unilaterally to make it available as it was last online.

I will take down the site today. Sorry we couldn't have made contact so this could have been done properly, and again I apologize for my actions.

I would ask that it be removed it in it's entirety. Recently, all information was turned over to the C&E Museum in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Sometime in the near future, they will be relaunching the website(s) on their system. At that time, perhaps you could request permission to link to their site.

Answering Dave Casteel's question: The messages were one of the items we were not able to capture, so they're no longer there. I won't be making any changes to the site at all, unless there's a link that needs to be changed in order for the basic stuff to work. No new photos. We'll have to wait for www.pinetreeline.ca to come alive before that can be done.

A few months ago, we found that someone had bought the pinetreeline.org domain name, and that they would be resurrecting Ren L'Ecuyer's web site. We've waited, and waited, but so far nothing. About the time that Ren's wife Margaret decided to not continue with the web site, we captured almost everything so that it would not become lost.

Since the www.pinetreeline.org web site has not been reestablished, we have put the web site up as part of the Radomes Online Radar Museum, just as we captured it. You can find the Pinetree Line web site at www.radomes.org/pinetreeline. We consider this to be just an interim "fix" until a formal web site has been built, at which time we'll take this one down. Meanwhile, enjoy! Gene

Re: Pinetree Line site. Thanks, Gene. The "temporary" resurrection of the site works just as the original did, except that the messages don't seem to be there. I haven't tried, but will your version allow adding new photos?

The URL of the original site is still in maintenance status, and has been for a very long time. I think they must have run out of money.

Congratulations on getting the Museum operational and on-line. I joined the USAF in January 1961 as an AB and left in August 1968 as a SSGT. I went to approximately 2 years of Tech School at Keesler AFB. MS. I became a 30474 (GATR Tech) and a 30553 (BUIC Tech)- both AFSCs P-2. I served at 6 radar stations; i.e., 627-732-644-771-678-Det 3 621 TCS (Ubon,Thailand). I worked on the GRT-3/GRR7/GRC-27/BC610) Collins SSB Transceiver/AN-GKA-5 (Data Link)/RDF-6 and BUIC I/O. Assignments were mostly isolated but very necessary service during the Cold War period. We wish you success with the Museum. Sam Duncan, Lake City, Fl.

I have tried to leave several notes but they never post. I am an old 30352 who taught in the sets portion of the AC&W Radar School and later maintained the training radar equipment at Keesler AFB. I was at Keesler 1961--1966.

Re demolition of the joint-use Army / Air Force air-defense site at Oakdale, PA (Z-62), it appears that only the cantonment areas are being razed at this time (to make way for a new Collier Township park). A news article with photos of the demolition appears on-line at http://chartiersvalley.patch.com/announcements/collier-park-demolition-kick-off#photo-9539919.

The BNCO Qtrs, chow hall and all the buildings around the large parking area have been demolished and the concrete ground down to stones smaller than your fist. The steam plant has a large hole in the end and all equipment removed (after asbestos abatement). The site is disappearing quickly and sadly.
