At basic, Sampson, summer of '51, got issued all Army clothing. Yep, even brass buckles and insignia to polish. Had to pay myself for blue hat and AF insignia. Worse, was issued a OD Ike jacket and 1 pr OD pants.. Then later a pr of blue pants and 1 blue blouse. They wanted me to buy and pay for a blue Ike jacket and an additional pr blue pants. Pissed me off! The OD remained a legal uniform. Got by but later on fell out one time wearing the ODs.looked pretty dapper with the AF patch on the upper arm. The 1st Sgt came over like a storm cloud but I told him my one pr of blue pants were in the cleaners and the Ods were still a legal uniform. When the smoke cleared I was told to drop out. Never did buy the additional blue uniform. 01/16/2011 00:00:00 Name: Sgt.
