I was IFC Platoon Leader & XO on Site 3, A-4-44, Camp El Paso, Korea, Dec. 64-Dec. 65. I would love to hear from anyone that was there at that time. Also, I had an unusual form of cancer about 15 years ago. Has any members of an IFC Platoon,Nike-Hercules Unit had an unusual form of prostrate cancer? I am not after any VA benefits, but I have three sons and I don't want them to think my cancer was family related. Great Web site. John

Being born and raised on a military base were the best years of my life. We only lived in Lamacaza for 1 year but the thing I remember teh most was living in a double wide trailer, hardly any trees around our house (or trailer lol) and the snow!!! We lived there in 1971. My dad was Germain Hogue (Gerry) but sadly he passed away suddenly in 1981.

Looking back through the previous messages I've seen the Mt. Lemmon radar site mentioned several times (Tucson Az.) There was also a mobile radar at Davis Monthan (Tucson) The 83rd TCF. We did a lot of deployments to surrounding states for joint services training. Good times for a bunch of 20 year olds in the mid 1970's. TPS-44 & UPA-35.

A special thanks to Richard Read for contributing the 1964 Local Communitues Salute brochure from the 761st Radar Squadron, North Bend, OR. It was a pleasant and exciting surprise to see a photo of my father (Robert Eddy)in uniform, sitting on the right at the table in the NCO club. I immediately sent the image to Dad, Mom, and the rest of the family, who were quite surprised and excited, also. Thank you again, Richard. We are grateful!

Anybody else experience this. At basic, Sampson, summer of '51, got issued all Army clothing. Yep, even brass buckles and insignia to polish. Had to pay myself for blue hat and AF insignia. Worse, was issued a OD Ike jacket and 1 pr OD pants.. Then later a pr of blue pants and 1 blue blouse. They wanted me to buy and pay for a blue Ike jacket and an additional pr blue pants. Pissed me off! The OD remained a legal uniform. Got by but later on fell out one time wearing the ODs.looked pretty dapper with the AF patch on the upper arm. The 1st Sgt came over like a storm cloud but I told him my one pr of blue pants were in the cleaners and the Ods were still a legal uniform. When the smoke cleared I was told to drop out. Never did buy the additional blue uniform.

In case anyone has viewed the recent Acura commercial on TV which was shot at the winter testing facility in Baudette, MN, and wondered if it was near the former Air Force radar station, that actually IS the ex-Baudette AFS. The test area is out behind the old AF Station. Most of the original buildings and radar towers are still standing, though they cannot be seen in the commercial. Some of Acura's on-line videos do show a few views of the radar site; we show one such view in "Recent Photos" for Baudette AFS, and include the link.

Hey, great website. I left Keesler in spring of '72, for 772 AC&W Sq, Gibbsboro, NJ, where I served for 2 years in the HF section. I worked primarily on the AN/FPS 26A, but also had occasion to nurse the backup AN/FPS 6A when the need arose, and the scopes in the ops bldg. Many good memories that I would never trade. I remember a short TDY to Fort Meade MD to p/u a new pedestal for the FPS 6. It was dark when we got there and it took a long time to find someone to help us, but even longer for the army to find where they had stored the unit!
I got my sgt. stripe in spring of '74, was posted for Alaska shortly thereafter, but took an early out in the first wave offered.
