Here is a link to a news story (posted August 14, 2014) about the recent commemoration ceremony at the former Mount Hebo AFS:

I was never stationed at Mt Hebo, but have a lot of connections including a QC inspection back in the early 70's. I attended the ceremony to place the plaque on 8 August. It was good to meet Steve and Dave as well as others. There were 22 exAF people there by my count. Thanks to the Forest Service for their efforts to recognize those who served at Mt. Hebo.

The Siuslaw National Forest unveiled their Interpretive Panel about Mt Hebo AFS on 8 Aug 14. Former veterans from the 689th RS were present and described some of their memories about life on the mountain. For almost 30 years after this site was removed, visitors were greeted by an empty meadow. Now they will know that we were there and some of the details we remember.

I believe that all those who have served in AC&W system any place in the world played a part keeping America safe from attack for more than 50 years. Thanks to all the officers, enlisted, and civilians that contributed to this endeavor. Those late night or early morning recalls and traveling through the blinding snow to the pilots and maintainers who kept those alert birds flying, Thank you one and all.

On Friday, 8 Aug 14, I will be at the former Mt Hebo AFS, OR. The Siuslaw National Forest (US Forest Service) will be unveiling their newly developed Mt. Hebo AFS interpretive panel. Photos and descriptions about the radar station are included. Veterans stationed at Mt. Hebo AFS, and the important national security mission that they accomplished will be recognized.
