I was looking at the photos of Rockville in this site, circa 1960,I was there in 1976 and realized that the only thing that changed was the old car parked by the Admin bldg, wasn`t there anymore. I did enjoy seeing my old work station, I was an ID Tech, I spent many hours in front of that desk dreaming about, well you all know what I`m talking about.

I have been enjoying this site for four months now.I check the guest list and radar site roster just about every day. I located two of my old radar site buddies but was sad to learn one had passed away a year ago. Perhaps some type of obituary page would be nice. In march 1972 four of us headed to Elmadorf AFB right out of tec.school at Keesler to begin our remote assignments. I was suppose to go to the 711th at Cape Lisburne but one of us, the one with the best teeth, would have to go to Cold Bay, the 714th. Well, that turned out to be me. But I didnt mind, being from South Carolina I was happy to head south. also, I was told `their is a girl behind every tree down there`. Now I was a young 18 year old pinger (do you remember that term `pinger` at tec. school?)fresh out of basic and tec. school, I didnt know there were no trees there. Anyway I gained a whole new respect for trees, and girls after that. But that year I spent their turned out to be one of the greatest experiences of my life. The salmon fishing, sea birds, Kodiak brown bears, eagles,Ptarmigan hunting.Wow, what an experience. Thanks Cold Bay. Left there and went to the 644th at Homested, Florida. Drove from Columbia S.C. When I got there I was sun burned on my left side from driving during the day and being pale from a year in Alaska. Had to learn to write backwards all over again. Didnt do that at Cold Bay. Plenty of Trees and girls! Stayed there untill I got out in Oct. 1975. Another great asignment.

This year I have watched, on PBS, DooWop 50 and 51. Many of these singing groups are missing members that have moved on to sing in a higher concert. They were popular during the early period of ACW, 50s and 60s, like them a lot of us have moved on to a higher mountain top. I visit the radomes.org site once or twice daily. Every visit I learn something new or find email contact of a old comrade. Thanks to Gene, Tom, staff and all contributors for a site that can allow us to reminisce and locate old friends. I am a little confused; I served in the 711th AC and W Sqdn in northwestern Alaska during the Korean war and we thought we were operational at that time. We were using a rather antiquated system by todays standards - FPS- 5 and some of the other stations were even employing TPS-1B --

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Just thought I would check in. The website continues in its tradition of excellence, and I continue to enjoy visiting it. I am always eager to hear from any old comrades from Flight 1988, 3706th BMTS, at Lackland (1971), or the 3381st / 3426th Student Squadrons at Keesler (1972), or the 792nd Radar Squadron at North Charleston (1972-74). Every time I ride by the old 792nd site when traveling to Charleston on business, I am comforted by the shell of the 27-Tower still standing, after all these years. Here`s wishing everyone a joyous holiday season !

Anyone remember the first time they called home using the AUTOVON system and how nice it was not to have to pay anything? From the 790th Fortuna,ND I`d call the 670th (San Pedro, CA)for an off base line. I didn`t have to go to the mail room after that.
